Peace & Justice

Peace & Justice

In the Quran, we are told to stand up for justice. Whether it’s against ourselves, our family, the wealthy, the poor, or the powerful. At such, we can speak of when we see an injustice being done. In our deen, we are told that when we see something wrong, we should condemn it by action, and if we cannot, then by words, and if we cannot, we should at least say in our hearts that it is wrong. There are many injustices being done; let us all stand up for justice and stand up for what’s wrong.

Peaceful Families the Foundation for A Peaceful World

In Islam, we are taught that family is extremely important. Allah tells us in the Qur’aan not to break our family ties. He stresses the importance of our parents, especially our mothers. As the foundation of our communities, it is important to maintain peaceful relations with our families; it follows that we will have peaceful communities. This, inshAllah, leads to peace in our nations’ end throughout the world.

3 Spiritual Actions We Can Take for Palestine

The plight of the Palestinian people is at the for front of the every news cycle these days. The people of Palestine have been suffering for many decades, what has been happening to them in recent years is hard to believe, it is hard to believe that such cruelty can be perpetrated against the people while the entire world moves on. Stand up for justice! Speak up for justice! Stand up for peace! Here are something’s you can do on the spiritual level :

1. The 20 minutes you set aside to breathe is so Palestinians can breathe. Turn off your phone. Make the intention that this break you are taking is so you can come back stronger. Take a walk or engage in intense physical exercise. 20 minutes to take care of the mind and body Allah gave you will give you the rest of the day to care for the siblings in faith He made you an advocate for.

2. This is the time to reflect on the Qur’an with Palestine in mind. When you’re overwhelmed, the Quran will give you contentment and perspective. Reflect especially on Surat al-Isra. The solace Allah gives through historical facts in His Own words is unmatched. How did small groups of people in the past lace large armies that vastly outnumbered them? Because God was on their side. Tawakkul, or complete reliance and trust in Allah, is always weightier and more effective than the mightiest of armies.

3. Your Du’as, especially during Tahajjud, is the most powerful weapon you have.Your throats may be torn from screaming in protest, your fingers tired from relentless online adovcacy, and your mind reeling from feeling like you’re shouting into a void. But a whisper to the one who gave you the ability to speak is a sure promise that your voice is heard loud and clear, and the fruits of it will be seen according to his perfect timing.

Prayers for Palestine

May Allah make peace rain on our brothers and sisters in Palestine. May He grant them continued relief from the bombs that have been raining on their heads for so long. May He hear and answer their prayers to be freed from the chains of their occupiers and oppressors. May He give them full authority and sovereignty over their land. May He grant them life of peace and continued belief in Him. Aameen.

Native Americans

Many of us are quiet unaware of the living conditions of our Native American brothers and sisters. It is really a shame that the people who are native to this land suffer under such harsh conditions. This is an example of an injustice that we live with everyday. However, unfortunately living as reservations as they do, they are out of sight, almost invisible. Let us do what we can to help out our Native American brothers and sisters. Here are some questions to think about:

1. Why do Native Americans face such harsh conditions in a rich and powerful country like the US?

Historical government policies concentrated Native Americans in remote, barren regions with added transportation costs. Reservation lands, held in trust, discourage outside investment and job creation.Unemployment rates range from 35-85%, and basic services are often hours away, contributing to challenging living conditions.Even the most basic services – healthcare, retail stores, pharmacies, and schools – are often an hour or more away and families are forced to choose between using what little money they have to buy gasoline for the car or food for the children.

2. Why didn’t Iknow about this problem before?

Lack of awareness is common, and Sharing information is crucial to addressing the issue. Urgent needs include food and water; one in four Native Americans on reservations lacks sufficient food.Southwest Reservation Aid ® (SWRA) focuses on building self-sufficient communities, starting with providing essential resources.

Indigenous Peoples Day

Indigenous Peoples Day or Native American Heritage Day is celebrated on the same day as, and instead of, Columbus Day. It is celebrated by Native Americans in the US with cultural events. Be sure to check in your local community to see when and where celebrations like this take place. Support your Native American brothers and sisters by participating in their events and donating to their organizations.

Black and Brown People Let us Unite

Black and Brown people on the planet, it is time for us all to unite. Let us stand together for peace and justice. Let us stand together and fight for our rights. We who for so long have had on lands, resources, even our people stolen from us, we who have endured the torture of European-style slavery, we who have been demonized, marginalized, stigmatized, brutalized for so long by European oppressors. Let us fight to regain what is ours. Let us fight for dignity, peace, and prosperity. With Allah’s help, let us be strong again, making Him the center of everything. May He guard us to achieve this in the most righteous way. Aameen. May we follow the footsteps of Cheikh Amadou Bamba, fighting with the Qur’aan and our pens; using our voices, peaceful to the end. Aameen. May Allah grant us victory! Aameen.

This is one of Dr.Dona’s unpublished poems to be included in a future book! Inshallah!

Alhamdulillah, we, the Black and Brown people of the Blacklands and Diaspora, are waking up and moving forward with strength, courage, people in the B and trust in Allah.
